Mission


LUMIERE strives to push the boundaries of molecular photonics by creating and examining innovative biomimetic photoswitches inspired by nature. By integrating cutting-edge synthesis, ultrafast spectroscopy, computational modeling, and application-driven design, LUMIERE aims to pave the way for new technologies and scientific insights, while training a new generation of researchers to lead the field forward.

Objectives



Novel Molecular Design

Develop and synthesize new classes of biomimetic photoswitches that mimic natural light-sensitive molecules, enabling precisely controllable switching behavior under illumination.


Ultrafast Dynamics

Employ state-of-the-art ultrafast spectroscopic techniques—including time-resolved photoelectron and transient absorption spectroscopy—to probe the excited-state dynamics and structural changes in real-time.


Theoretical Modeling

Integrate advanced computational methods to predict molecular behavior, guiding the design process and helping to rationalize experimental observations.


Applied Research

Bridge fundamental science with practical applications by exploring how these photoswitches can be integrated into devices, materials, and technologies for data storage, sensing, or energy conversion.


Interdisciplinary Training

Equip doctoral candidates with a comprehensive skill set—combining deep scientific expertise with communication, entrepreneurship, and project management skills—preparing them for leadership roles in academia, industry, and beyond.
